About Andalucía

The history of Andalucía, since ancient times, has seen various periods of greatness, among them the Caliphate during the Muslim presence (711-1492) and, of course, the conquest of the Americas. These cultures have left their influence and mark on its architecture and arts, as well as in its people; their society and culture have also had their grand achievements and memorable names, from Averroës of Córdoba to Pablo Ruiz Picasso, of Málaga.

To highlight the section about governments and administrations, we can look at the evolution of Andalucíaás political autonomy and self-rule, just as in the section about its economy, where we pinpoint important facts about the integration of Spain into the Common Market, as was, or the European Union, as it is today.

But one of the greatest attractions of the region is its natural parks and, consequently, the conservation of our treasure, our environment, is tremendously important.

It is also important to emphasise the significance of the Spanish National Fiesta; Spain is, without a doubt, the birthplace of the art of bull-fighting, with Andalusia at the very heart of it. This significance extends to breeding horses: vital in this particular fiesta and deeply rooted in the Andalusian culture.

A perhaps more quotidian point of interest to the visitor is the growth of golf in Andalucía which, thanks to a unique equation of landscape and climate, now sees more than a hundred golf courses open to lovers of the sport along its Mediterranean and Atlantic coasts.
